British Concept

The Dutch made their exit from Melaka when British troops came marching in after the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824 was signed. As they did throughout the rest of Malaya, the British set up systems, established administrative processes, and erected buildings in their vernacular architecture. Many of those colonial structures remain throughout the country, as have various legacies including language and an interesting hybrid of Hainanese-English food served at the kopitiam (coffee shop).

Victorian Room

Crumbly scones, dainty sandwiches and pretty little cakes disappear bit by bit from a tiered stand while conversations flow as easily as freshly brewed tea pours from fine bone China pots. The quintessential English afternoon tea is one of the most fulfilling indulgences, harking to an unhurried pace where life is celebrated in the simplest ways. Our Victorian Room carries on in the same vein, a handsome abode with twin beds crowned by an overhanging damask panel where blue and white porcelain plates take pride of place. The classic flair is tempered with 21st-century comforts and conveniences that every modern traveller would appreciate.

Union Jack Room

The Union Jack flies proudly in the room named after it and inspired by 1960s Britain. Drawing on the zeitgeist of that era, this double room is ensconced in the very things that made London the world capital of cool. Walls are coated an intense red that references the iconic pillar boxes and double-decker buses, contemporised with a cool palette of whites and greys. Book your stay for a throwback to the carefree optimism of Swinging London.
